PROJECT: SAP SYSTEM AND CRM APPLICATION UPGRADE

BT implement a highly fault tolerant Disaster Recovery solution for Irish Distillers' critical SAP Business Application

A SAP system provides all sales, distribution and finance processes for IDL. A failure of this system and consequent down-time would have a serious impact on the business, as David Ryan, IT Manager for Irish Distillers Ltd, explained:

"Our reliance on SAP to run many of our key processes has made this system critical to the overall business. We required a zero fault tolerance for SAP and the ability for IDL to recover from the loss of these systems with minimal down time."

BT had previous experience, with B.I.C. Systems, in delivering key projects for IDL, specifically on the company’s SAP System. These projects included a major upgrade of their SAP R/3 system and the SAP CRM application.

BT implemented a highly fault tolerant Disaster Recovery solution for IDL's critical SAP Business Application. This was completed using Oracles Data Guard software product and included replicating their production SAP system from IDL’s Data Centre back to their main administration offices in Dublin.
David Ryan of IDL added: "The beauty of this solution is that in the unlikely event of IDL losing our data centre, we can then bring up the replicated system at our administration offices within minutes. This solution will act as a safety net ensuring that any downtime due to system failure will be minimal. Our decision to award this contract to BT was due to the team’s breadth of knowledge and experience of Oracle and SAP systems coupled with a proven track record."
